Green gathering at One Dalkeith

At the end of last month we had our fourth and last outreach event of our Hub’s initial series of events. Much like the previous three, it was a resounding success – bringing us up to over 500 people attending all four events!

A huge thank you to One Dalkeith Community Development Trust for having us at their amazing hub. One Dalkeith are a fantastic example of how projects run by the community for the community can make such a difference to enhance community life.

Once again we had a packed day with amazing organisations and community groups joining us – the real stars of the day.

One Dalkeith kicked the day off with an inspiring showcase of their work, their new facilities, and how they serve the community.

Dalkeith Guerrilla Gardeners told us about community responsibility for shared spaces and how to create a place that promotes health and community wellbeing.

We had many familiar faces join us once again for this event. Home Energy Scotland provided much needed advice on energy saving and energy efficient home improvements. Similarly, Elaine, the Storyteller, dazzled us with her fantastic stories about nature and wilderness, and Communities Lifelong-Learning also joined us once again with their Counting Carbon game.

1st Rosewell Brownies joined us for the 4th time to show us how to make Seed Bombs, as well display their brand new solar energy demo kit, funded by our very own Seedcorn grants!

Riverfly on the Esk and Buglife once again brought our rivers to us to give us a glimpse of the world of invertebrates calling them home

And many new ones too! Central Dalkeith and Woodburn Pantry introduced people to their work and the importance of community pantries. Dalkeith Men’s Shed showed us around their workshop, as well as some of their work.

Dalkeith Arts Club played their imaginative youth-led stop motion on Saving the Earth and showed us how Midlothian’s youth is committed to fight climate change

Chef Steve Brown from Pop Conscious Catering showed us how to cook cheap, tasty and sustainable meals

Dr. Bunhead’s puppets entertained the younger one by showing that there is no such thing as rubbish

Dalkeith Arts brought a splash of creativity to the Green Gathering

We had yet another fantastic day! This brings us to the end our series of outreach events to introduce the climate hub, but it marks only the start of our work!

We will have exciting news and activities over the coming year, so make sure to follow us and keep an eye out!
